Job Overview

The Corporate Communications Writer/Editor will serve as the internal communication partner for the company. While duties may span broadly across all areas of communications and marketing, the emphasis will be on creating engaging and informative original content. This individual will be responsible for writing company magazine articles, press releases, corporate communications, internal reports, marketing materials, newsletters, website content, email notifications and other items as necessary.  This role offers both operational and creative support, driving communication approaches that are employee-centered while helping the business meet its objectives.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

* Serve as internal communications partner to business units and workgroups within the company, assist in the development of key communications messages, and develop communications plans as needed.

* Managing and coordinating The Asplundh TREE and UtiliConnections magazines (at least 3x per year). This includes, but is not limited to planning, researching and writing of articles, attaining approval of copy, safety approval of photos, proofreading and managing the printing and mailing.

* Partnering with design and communication firms to develop and monitor national advertising schedules and budgets.

* Write and oversee editing, obtaining photos and proofing of communications deliverables prior to distribution. Research and update contact lists for electronic distribution of press releases locally and within various industries.

* Fielding questions from radio, TV and newspaper sources during storm events and other high profile/sensitive situations.  Coordinating with, and gaining approval from, executive leadership and legal counsel. 

* Write, edit, proofread and coordinate the overall production of the annual report to shareholders and holiday message to employees.

* Writing and coordinating scripts, arranging video shoots and working with video editors.

* Coordinating photo submissions and photographer permissions for the company wall calendar and annual photo contest.

* Assist in other areas of the department including, but not limited, to assisting with meetings, events and industry conferences.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

* Minimum of four (4) years of experience in a corporate communications department.

* Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field.

* Impressive writing skills and a portfolio to back it up. Storytelling, copywriting, documentations, white papers - anything and everything that shows proficiency in narrative, voice, content strategy, and creative writing. Best practices and principles in writing for a designated audience, educating the team and elevating our perspective.

* The ability to break down large swaths of information into digestible content. Must have demonstrated, through previous positions, an ability to meet deadlines and develop communications solutions and materials that meet business objectives.

* Superior attention to detail, accuracy, timeliness and experience managing projects to completion.

* Must also have the ability to work successfully with senior leaders to provide communications counsel and support.

* A willingness to learn - quickly - by doing, and an open mind / curiosity about our industry.
