Local Unit & Position Description

DNV GL – Energy’s Power Testing, Inspections, and Certification group is seeking a Test Technician to join our KEMA-Powertest Laboratory, located in Chalfont, Pennsylvania. The Powertest lab is the largest high power electrical testing laboratory in the United States providing electrical power, dielectric and mechanical testing services to a variety of clients from government and industry. This position is based in our Chalfont, PA facility.

Tasks may include

  • Prepare tests according to test plan / programs, as directed by a Test Engineer
  • Prepare and disassemble test specimen setup as required by the test program within the required time frame
  • Prepare test setup instrumentation utilizing instruments such as shunts, current transformers, potential transformers, voltage dividers, and cameras for obtaining correct measurements
  • Maintain HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) schematics within assigned area of responsibility
  • Apply general knowledge of electrical circuits, equipment and knowledge of laboratory equipment to determine safe operating limits of test apparatus. Make simple calculations to obtain circuit constants such as resistances, reactance, capacitance, power factors, voltages, currents and other similar information required in test circuitry
  • Work on maintenance and facility improvements
  • Maintain excellent team and client relations

Position Qualifications

  • Basic drafting skills and ability to read technical drawings
  • High school diploma or vocational school certificate required; 1 year or more of Electrical Engineering studies preferred
  • 2 or more years of experience as a Test Technician performing similar work required
  • Basic experience with mechanical and electrical tools and equipment required
  • Experience with and commitment to formalized HSE approaches and standards
  • Solid problem-solving capabilities, as well as creativity and attention to detail
  • Demonstrable skills in self-scheduling and self-motivation
  • Capable of working without supervision in maintaining work and schedules
  • A goal-oriented approach and ability to complete assigned tasks
  • Ability to work day and night shifts, overtime, and weekends as required
  • Positive attitude and ability to work effectively with different teams
  • Ability to learn and develop skills over time
  • Highly-polished English communication skills - written and verbal
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and to climb ladders at times
  • Willingness and ability to successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation and drug screen
